One of the recommendations for schools from Mark Sneddon (Director, Sneddon Legal) at our recent Webinar Responding to Victoria’s Change or Suppression (Conversion) Practices Prohibition Act was that schools:
• Provide training and compliance guidance to staff including volunteers on what they can and can’t do under the Act
• Ensure that appropriate record-keeping processes are in place
Both of these measures will be important for showing a school has taken reasonable precautions to prevent a staff member engaging in a CSP and, in the event that a staff member did engage in a CSP, to avoid vicarious liability.

In this hands-on workshop, participants will engage with and understand the legislation and then work collaboratively to draft a training and compliance guide which can be used and adapted by schools. There will be space for 30 participants.

This workshop is suitable for school leaders, leaders responsible for Christian Studies/Wellbeing, Risk & Compliance Leaders and leaders responsible for staff training.

Maria Varlet: CSAVIC/TAS Executive Officer
Dr Maria Varlet has been involved in Christian Education for over 30 years, holding a variety of leadership positions including Head of Research & Innovation and Campus Principal. She has served on a number of Boards including as Deputy Chair of the CSA National Council. Maria has completed extensive formal study including a doctoral thesis which contributes insights into how Christian schools might utilise professional learning strategies to address tensions between ethos and assessment practices. As the Executive Officer, VIC/TAS, Maria is looking after the portfolio of Professional Learning. She is passionate about promoting and developing exemplary education practice, challenging the status quo and equipping and inspiring others. Her professional interests include teacher professional learning, leadership development and school improvement.
Mark Spencer: CSA Director of Public Policy
Mark is responsible for advocacy on behalf of CSA member schools in a wide range of educational policy as well as areas relating to religious freedom and equal opportunity and discrimination law, both at the Commonwealth and State/Territory level. Mark provides initial advice to schools in all non-educational operations including funding, finance, governance, management, media management and industrial relations.
Mark is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants after graduating with a Bachelor of Business degree with a major in accounting. He went on to complete a Master of Labour Relations and Law degree in 1999 and a Graduate Diploma in Legal Studies with a High Distinction average in 2016. Mark is also a Graduate member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors, and a Fellow of the Governance Institute of Australia. In 2014 he completed an executive education program at the Said Business School of the University of Oxford.

Cancellation Policy
All cancellations must be made in writing to the Event Organiser. Unfortunately, no refunds will be issued after 5 days out from the event. Any cancellations made after this date will be charged the full registration fee. 'No Shows' to the event will be charged the full registration fee.
Please note that registration fees do not include insurance to cover loss of any fees/deposit through cancellation of your participation in the event or through cancellation of the event itself. A full refund will be issued if the event is cancelled by the organiser (CSA) due to any reasons out of the organisers control.
