CSA School Governance Program Short Course 2

EFFECTIVE GOVERNANCE - SHORT COURSE 2

Christian schools seek to provide quality education and care in faithful response to the Gospel of Christ. The School Governance Program developed by Effective Governance in collaboration with Christian Schools Australia is a 12-module course designed to equip Christian school board members, the principal and school leadership team with the key governance knowledge they need to understand and support the board's role so that directors remain mission true and ministry-orientated and secure the school's long-term sustainability. The course is based on the  School Governance Practice Framework, which is adapted from the Corporate Governance Practice Framework and Methodology, published in the Directors at Work: A Practical Guide for Boards. (Thomson Reuters, 2012).

This one-day program will cover Short Course 2:

Short Course 2 - Financial Governance

  • Module 4 - Financial Reporting
  • Module 5 - Financial Performance
  • Module 6 - Principal and Executive Oversight

Event Registration Information

This event is catered and you will be given the opportunity to specify dietary requirements at registration.

Each module comes with:

  • A set of Topical notes (approx. 40 x A4 pages)
  • Presentation PowerPoint slides (approx. 50 slides)
  • Activity/case studies
  • Checklist for boards

Indicative Cost: Approximately $530 + GST for a minimum total of 10 participants (Please note the cost will be determined and invoice issued once final numbers are confirmed.)

Speaker

Ian Hewitt: CSA Consultant

Ian Hewitt was most recently Principal at Trinity Christian School from the beginning of 2018 until mid-2025. Immediately prior to this, he was the Foundation Principal of The Anglican School Googong. He has extensive experience across a range of schools in the ACT, NSW and Queensland. He has held the position of Director of Education Strategy at Canberra Grammar School and prior to this was the Assistant Head of School – Learning and Teaching at Marist College Canberra.

Ian has worked at a strategic level in education both locally and nationally in the areas of information technology and curriculum development from Kindergarten to Year 12.

Ian serves on the National Council (Board) of Christian Schools Australia and until recently was a Board Member of the Association of Independent Schools ACT. He has been a Board Member of a large Christian School and served as Chair of the Development Committee Property and then the Finance Committee during this time. Ian currently serves as a member of the Anglican Diocese of Canberra and Goulburn Professional Standards Board Panel.

He has a passion for supporting and growing leaders within Christian schools and has extensive experience as a coach and mentor over many years across schools nationally. Ian was a coach with AISNSW for a number of years as part of their Principal Induction Program and continues to coach and mentor independently as a ‘consultant’.

Ian's qualifications include: Bachelor of Education, Master of Education, Graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors, Member of the Australian Council for Educational Leaders.

Qualify for CPD Hours

This event attracts 6 CPD hours.

Cancellation Policy

Cancellations must be made in writing a week before the event. No refunds will be issued after 14 days out from the event. Any cancellations made after this date will be charged the full registration fee. 'No Shows' to the event will be charged the full registration fee. The registration is transferable.

The event program is subject to change without prior notice.

Registration fees do not include insurance to cover loss of any fees/deposit through cancellation of your participation in the event or through cancellation of the event itself.

A full refund (less any unrecoverable registration costs) will be issued if the event is cancelled by the organiser (CSA) due to any other reasons out of the organisers control.
