Approaches to Effective Teaching and Learning (ETLS 2)

We warmly invite you to join New Hope International’s ETLS 2 Online Teacher Training Course—a 10-week journey that will enrich your own understanding and practice of effective Christian teaching. Explore how to foster a community of shalom in your classroom, creating a space where students are empowered to flourish as God’s image-bearers and are inspired to step confidently into their God-given purpose.

N.B. ETLS 1 or ‘Foundations’ is assumed knowledge. Some prereading will be required for those who have not yet undertaken these courses.

Event Information

The course will be delivered by engaging, experienced presenters online over 10 weeks from Tuesday February 10 to 14 April, 2026. The cost of this course is $150 +GST with all proceeds going to the work of New Hope International.

Speakers 

Speaker: Catriona Wansbrough, Global Connect Ambassador

Catriona brings enthusiasm and energy for training staff in cross-cultural contexts and empowering school leaders. Her vast, wide-ranging experience includes being a school Principal in Christian Schools Australia schools for nearly 18 years, most recently at St Andrews Christian College, VIC. She has effectively trained teachers in Botswana, Pakistan, Tanzania, Uganda, Vanuatu, Solomon Islands and Nepal. She assisted in the writing of a new teacher training course in Tanzania (with New Hope International).

Speaker: Sue Skuthorpe, Global Connect Ambassador

Sue has been involved in education since 1971 serving as a classroom teacher, as well as in leadership positions in three Christian schools. Sue served for thirteen years as the Principal of Charlton Christian College, retiring from this role in 2016. Since then, Sue was CEO of New Hope International (NHI) until December 2022, travelling internationally to train teachers in developing countries.

Speaker: Sandra Scott, Global Connect Ambassador

Sandra has a wealth of experience in Christian education and teacher training within Australia and beyond. From 2011 – 2018 she was the South Australia Executive Officer for Christian Schools Australia. Sandra’s passion is for high-quality, authentic Christian schools which are fertile places for the transformation of students’ hearts and minds. She loves to promote local and global connections and relationships, inspire teachers and leaders to embrace their high calling, and encourage quality mission and service activities.

Speaker and Host: Kathryn Button, Director of Global Connect

Kathryn has extensive experience in leadership in Christian and government schools, most recently as the Senior School Principal at Tyndale Christian School in South Australia. She is passionate about global mission and service, and is keen to expand the global vision of schools. She is also keen to encourage more women to pursue leadership roles in Christian schools and to explore ways to enable them to flourish in these roles. 

Qualify for CPD Hours

This event attracts 15 CPD hours according to the following AITSL professional teacher and leadership standards:

» 3.2 - Plan, sequence and structure learning programs
» 6.2 - Engage in professional learning and improve practice
» 6.3 - Engage with colleagues and improve leadership practice
» 7.4 - Engage with professional leadership networks and broader communities

The CPD Certificate will be emailed to you following the final session in April.
